Goodbye Highchair

It's a slow news day folks, so what better time to celebrate our newest achievement - saying goodbye to our most hated of remaining baby items: the highchair. (Even though, she does look darn cute in that picture...)

That big, space wasting monstrosity that I wish someone had told me I would never really need. With it's wheels that never really locked and never really rolled properly either; and it's tray that Kasia learned how to snap off and toss aside - the more food on it, the better; to it's plush and puffy padding that trapped cheerios, crumbs, bits of cheese and anything else unlucky enough to get sucked into it's dark abyss. Ah Graco Contempo.....my nemesis.....my foe.....the bane of my existance. I will not miss you.

Enter the new kid. The booster. Small, portable, totally hard surfaced and completely hygenic! The best part....she loves it! Grins like the Cheshire cat every time we put her in it.
Way to go Kashi...you're a big kid now!

I saw your post on Ashely's blog and it lead me to your blog. Thanks for your beautiful writing. You are an amazing writer and I love reading your blog. How is Kasia doing with the Hepatoblastoma? How are her blood counts for AFP? Was she stage 1? Do you know the histology i.e fetal, embryonyal, small cell undifferentiated etc... You never mentioned her genetic diagnosis name. I'd love to chat more. you can post on our blog or email me at trnakata@msn.com. I'm Ashley's mom and my name is April. We live in Seattle, WA.

Yay Kaisa! Congrats on getting rid of the high chair - especially since it didn't seem to be too popular at your house. I have to say though that picture is pretty cute.

It's funny how we all use things differently. I like our high chair but can see how you could do without. For me it was receiving blankets - I think I received 40-something of these things and everyone told me "you can never have enough". Well, I don't think I've ever used them. Apparently they're also good for cleaning the house - so that's what I'll probably use them for.

Oh Barbara, if I could list the things I received and/or bought for Kasia and then realized they were useless....the list is long and her crib would be #1!!

And yes, receiving blankets are something we all seem to get WAY too may of! I've got a stack of them to donate to the neonatal unit at the hospital - most, if not all, of the blankets, sleepers, hats, etc they put on the babies are donated. I found that kind of touching when Kasia was in there and promised I would donate all of her items once she was done with them. But now that you mentioned it, maybe I will keep a few of the "uglier" blankets to use for cleaning my house! A good idea!

I have never heard it put that way. I have to agree. My youngest is still in his highchair (at 20 months) but, he climbs out. He has to be pinned it to eat. Otherwise, he just doesn't eat. He's to busy with other things.
I love it- a place for crumbs, etc to hide. This is so true. I feel like it's constantly a bacteria breeding ground. I lysol and bleach the thing, but it just never seems clean. Thanks for your view on that! It's great :)
